Free multiplication games and times tables practice

The game above is set to multiplication facts only. Choose 3rd grade for times tables up to 10 × 10, or 4th–6th grade to go up to 12 × 12. Once the facts are quick, Multiply Mountain shows how to multiply bigger numbers by breaking them into place-value boxes.

What kids practice

  • Times tables up to 10 × 10 (3rd grade) and 12 × 12 (4th–6th grade)
  • Multiplication as equal groups and arrays
  • Breaking a hard fact into easier ones
  • Multiplying 2- and 3-digit numbers with the area model

Try one together: 7 × 8 by breaking it apart

  1. 7 × 8 is the same as 5 × 8 plus 2 × 8.
  2. 5 × 8 = 40.
  3. 2 × 8 = 16.
  4. 40 + 16 = 56, so 7 × 8 = 56.

Tips for parents and teachers

Matching school standards

These games line up with these Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

Questions parents ask

When should kids know their times tables?

Most standards expect kids to know all products of two one-digit numbers from memory by the end of 3rd grade. Many keep practicing through 12 × 12 in 4th and 5th grade.

What order should kids learn the times tables in?

A common order is 2s, 5s and 10s, then 3s, 4s and 9s, then 6s, 7s and 8s. Each new table can be built from ones already learned.
